About Funga

Funga is a public benefit corporation harnessing forest fungal networks to address the climate crisis. We combine modern DNA sequencing and machine learning technology with breakthrough research on the forest microbiome to put the right native, biodiverse communities of mycorrhizal fungi in the right place. This leads to more quality wood created more quickly, more carbon sequestered, and more resilient forests. We serve land partners seeking to implement regenerative forestry practices that improve productivity and sustainability, and corporate carbon buyers building high-quality carbon removal portfolios with strong social and biodiversity outcomes. We’re a team of passionate scientists and builders on a mission to draw down at least three gigatons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by 2050.

If you are excited by starting new things, learning as you go, and being hands-on in applying your work to the private sector, you will dig working with us. We encourage you to apply even if only some of the below criteria are met—just make sure to tell us why you’re excited about Funga!

About the Role

Achieving large scale fungal biodiversity restoration and gigaton scale carbon removal requires building and delivering on relationships with several key customer types: forest landowners, forest restoration project developers and corporate carbon buyers. We are searching for someone who understands the value in biodiversity first, nature based climate solutions; sees managed forestry and natural forest restoration as an opportunity to deliver biodiversity and climate solutions at scale; and has the communications and executional chops to bring these values to life in a commercial context. This person will be part of the Growth Team and report directly to the Chief Growth Officer, working together to develop and iterate on business and partnership models that can deliver measurable climate impact.

This is a role for someone hungry to jump into a cutting edge biodiversity climate technology startup company to grow our sales and project investments. Someone who is successful in this role will have a strong understanding of commercial forestry carbon credit and working capital markets, and is excited to develop innovative solutions to the unique business questions our technology creates.

In This Role, You Will

  • Engage key carbon buyers, working capital investors, and other impact funds, understand their climate goals, investment criteria, geographical and risk appetite, and lead transactions through closing.
  • Build and maintain a robust sales funnel by adding to Funga’s network and contacts among prospective carbon credit and working capital partners.
  • Actively track and build relationships to increase our likelihood of success when responding to dilutive and non-dilutive financing opportunities.
  • Own full sales cycle by managing data independently, developing presentations, responding to RFPs and due diligence requests, working cross-functionally leveraging other internal resources as needed.
  • Be a Funga team champion living our mission, vision, and values with enthusiasm and bringing passion for nature-based climate solutions, biodiversity restoration, and of course, fungi.
  • Bring credibility from an established commercial role at a peer nature-based solutions provider or within the tech industry and represent Funga at industry events.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • 5+ years of experience in a sales and growth oriented role.
  • Bachelor's degree required with a masters in business administration or similar focus preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience carrying a sales number, building and owning the sales cycle.
  • Experience managing multiple enterprise accounts and closing partnerships in a complex and rapidly evolving environment.
  • An independent, compassionate strategic thinker and doer.
  • Dedication to decarbonization, forestry and biodiversity.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the translation of complex technical concepts to a business audience.
  • A strong drive to build a historically significant company redefining forestry and forest restoration.
  • NOTE—please apply if you feel you are qualified, but don’t necessarily meet all of the above criteria!

Why Join Funga?

  • Build partnerships that bring regenerative forestry and forest restoration to scale.
  • Make a meaningful impact: Contribute to innovative solutions addressing one of the most pressing global challenges—climate change.
  • Collaborative environment: Work closely with a diverse team of scientists, foresters, and business leaders who share a common passion for sustainability.
  • Career growth: Be part of a pioneering company with opportunities for professional development and leadership.
  • Participate in comprehensive healthcare benefits and employee equity programs.
