Job Description

The Development Associate is a full-time, exempt, non-supervisory role supporting Sustainable
Northwest’s fundraising and development work. This fast-paced role requires an organized and
detail-oriented professional with a passion and talent for nonprofit fundraising, effective
administrative and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and
collaboratively. This role will work directly with the President and be provided with custom support
and guidance from professional development consultants.

Key Responsibilities


Administration (60%)
- Enter and maintain donor and donation data using Salesforce database
- Prepare and analyze development reports on a routine basis
- Identify, research, and track relationships with potential donors and corporate sponsors
- Generate and send timely and appropriate donation acknowledgments
- Provide primary administrative support for twice-yearly appeal letters
- Provide primary administrative support for mailing of annual report
- Manage online giving webpage and back-end software
- Handle routine internal and external business communications related to fundraising, including
donor inquiries
- Provide administrative support to development committee of board
- Provide administrative support to President related to donor cultivation


Events (30%)
- Provide primary support for annual “Live Edge” fundraising event
- Provide primary support for 1-3 small donor cultivation events annually
- Provide primary support for 1-3 house party fundraisers annually
- Collaborate with leadership, operations, and program teams to support annual board retreat


Grants (as time allows)
- As time allows, identify potential foundation sources for unrestricted funds
- As time allows, maintain and organize general language and resources frequently needed for
grant proposals and reports
- As time allows, support other grant research, writing, submission, and reporting activities

Qualifications
- Proficiency with standard donor management software and reporting (Salesforce)
- Proficiency with standard business communications platforms (Google Workspace)
- 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, and/or administration
- Ability to prioritize a demanding workload, meet deadlines, and work flexibly under pressure
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
- Reliable, creative self-starter with ability to self-manage
- Professional, friendly, personable, and enthusiastic, especially in interactions with donors
