About TransitCenter
TransitCenter is a private foundation that works to secure a more just and sustainable future with abundant public transportation options. To achieve our mission, and as we prepare to spend our endowment in the next 12 years, we need to build a movement working to transform how transportation is currently funded, and resources are spent.
TransitCenter’s work focuses on four key areas:
· Local power building: Strengthening local organizing and advocacy.
· Broadening stakeholders: Bringing in new allies to expand support for transit.
· Mobilizing philanthropy: Increasing funding dedicated to transit initiatives.
· Narrative change: Shaping public perception of transit as an essential service.
With this spend-down strategy, TransitCenter is committed to leaving a legacy of a strong, well-resourced movement advocating for public transit beyond its financial contributions. By taking bold, focused action, the organization seeks to increase transit access, reduce environmental impacts, and advance mobility equity—creating thriving, transit-rich communities.
